There is certain energy that people give off that can not always be felt merely through a MySpace page, a website or a song. Rarely, do I come across an artist with a magnetism that keeps me reading through their entire bio as the song seeps through the speakers. I usually just give a quick scan, a 20-second sample and move on. But today was different.

A 20-something-year-old woman poured her heart out onto her MySpace page and her website. The inspirational melody came through the speakers as she crooned about the dreary fight of life and the determination to go on. I believe she wrote her bio and these were not the words of some publicist because it complimented the song. The same theme resonated through both. She talked about the diversity of backgrounds in artists and their many causes. She gave praises to the Divine while stubbornly repeating, “I’m weary, but I won’t give up. I’m protected by the Almighty. And that assures me.”

Nova Lewis, a sultry singer and songwriter, born in Antigua rests comfortably on the shoulders of Reggae artists that have come before her. Her fire emits passion and elegance. Her sultry voice reaffirms her belief in all that she has stated in her bio. Her genuine appeal makes her easy to relate to. She remains symbolic of the artist in us all. The raspy voice common in most reggae vocalists is subtle in Lewis. Her finely tuned pitch confidently carries her message across. She vividly depicts struggle and determination. Her persona evokes evidence that her emotions are splattered across her notebook. Her race has only begun.

"I'm Weary" is a truly moving tribute to everyone who has questioned the choices made in life. The song is a real gut check and it offers hope for things unseen. It also highlights faith as motivation to do the things that people dream of.
